Welcome Marvel fans!
As you collect in our app, you'll see plenty of mention of "odds," so we wanted to take a moment and explain what exactly that means.
Think of odds as “probability.” Let’s put this in a real-world example:
Say you take a coin and flip it. You statistically have a 50/50 chance of landing heads or tails. If you flip that same coin 10 times in a row, you should, in theory, end up with 5 flips that land on heads and 5 flips that land on tails. But, as you probably know, this is not always the case.
You could end up with 2 heads and 8 tails, or you could end up with 10 tails and no heads!
Topps Pack odds work in a similar way:
Special Collectible Odds
Your chances to pull an Insert are represented as “1:X,” which stands for a 1 out of X chance. So, for instance, if a Pack has the stated odds of “1:10” to pull a specific Insert card, it means that you have a 1 out of 10 chances to pull that Insert with each pack you open.
To apply the coin-flip concept to pack openings: If an Insert has the stated odds of 1:10, it’s possible to get 10 Inserts in 10 packs! Conversely, you could open that Pack 10 times and not pull an Insert.
Beware of the common misconception that the ratio 1:10 (using our example from above) means that after buying 10 packs, you are guaranteed 1 Insert. Also, note that each pack opening is separate from the one before: Opening multiple packs will not affect your odds each time you open another one!
Therefore, 1:10 odds actually represent the following: With each pack opening, you have a 1 out of 10 chances to pull the insert. This means that every single time a pack is opened, the odds remain the same, and each pack opening is separate from those before and those that follow.
Tl;dr: The odds stated on a pack represent your chance of pulling an Insert each time you open a pack and aren’t affected by previous/following pack openings. Every pack opening is separate from other pack openings, and the odds operate on a per pack basis, NOT collectively.
Every Pack also contains assorted Base Cards. How many of each Base card parallel is available in each Pack, and what are the odds you will get them?
These odds are represented as percentages (%), which refer to the chances of each Base card in that Pack being a specific parallel.
For instance, if a pack states: “Green - 5%” this means that each Base card within the pack has a 5% chance of being Green.
Since this calculation is done on a per card basis, it does NOT mean that each pack will be made up of 5% Green Cards!
Tl;dr: Base Odds are represented as %’s, which represent the chances that each Base card within that pack will be a specific parallel.
We apologize for any confusion this may have caused in the past. We hope that this gives some clarity on how our odds operate!
